Clarington Council Directs Staff to Examine Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action

On June 21, 2021, the Clarington General Government Committee passed Resolution # GG-424-21, directing staff to examine the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's 94 Calls to Action. This resolution was moved by Councillor Hooper and seconded by Councillor Anderson. The resolution acknowledges June as National Indigenous History Month and highlights the municipality's recent efforts to educate staff and Council about the impacts of colonization on Indigenous communities, including the adoption of a Land Acknowledgement Statement and Indigenous Cultural Awareness Training. The Council intends for staff to consult with relevant Advisory Committees and members of the Indigenous community, with a report back to Council expected by early 2022, identifying recommendations for advancing reconciliation efforts in Clarington.
