Clarington Council Approves Park Design on Former Zoo Lands

The Clarington Council has approved the design vision for a new park on the former lands of the Bowmanville Zoo. The project will proceed to the detailed design phase, focusing initially on developing a trail network. Construction is expected to begin next year, with the park anticipated to open in 2026. The park's design was developed with community input and in collaboration with the local group Valleys 2000. It aims to integrate natural features and the historical significance of the land, including natural play structures, an outdoor amphitheatre, connected trails, demonstration gardens, and spaces for art and culture installations. The park is intended to honor the legacy of Soper Creek and the former zoo, while connecting to the broader trail system. The project is described as a significant development for the community, providing opportunities for green education and recreation in Bowmanville. More information and design plans are available on the Clarington municipal website.
