Clarington Council Approves 2025 Budget Update
Clarington, Ontario – The Clarington Council has adopted the 2025 Budget Update as of January 15. This budget is aligned with the municipality's 2024-27 Strategic Plan and addresses various community needs.
The budget outlines several key projects, including the South Bowmanville Recreation Centre, a new Operations Depot, Fire Station, and Training Centre. These initiatives are part of Clarington's efforts to accommodate its growing population.
A net levy increase is included in the budget, which will result in an estimated $93 annual increase for the average household's property tax bill. The distribution of the property tax bill is as follows: 33% goes to Clarington, 50% to the Region of Durham, and the remainder to education.
Mayor Adrian Foster remarked, "We’ve kept our streak of having some of the lowest property taxes in Durham Region." This reflects the municipality's approach to managing tax rates while addressing local needs.
The budget also considers the financial implications of Provincial legislation, specifically Bills 23 and 185, on municipal service delivery, which have been factored into the planning process.
