The Durham Region Health Department has posted several beaches in Clarington as unsafe for swimming due to elevated levels of E. coli. The affected beaches include Bowmanville East, Bowmanville West, and Newcastle Beach Central.

These postings are based on water tests conducted during the week of August 6, 2024, which showed E. coli levels exceeding the provincial standard of 200 E. coli per 100 ml of water.

The Health Department advises the public to avoid swimming at these locations until further notice.

For more information on beach water quality and updates, residents can visit the Health Department's online disclosure portal.
