Clarington Bans Rodenticides at Recreation Facilities
Clarington has banned the use of rodenticides at all Municipal recreation facilities as of July 1, 2024. This decision follows concerns raised by residents regarding the potential unintentional harm to wildlife, pets, and children associated with rodenticide use. A successful pilot project conducted at the Courtice Community Complex in the first half of 2024 demonstrated that identifying and addressing potential access points and using traps effectively kept mice and rats out of the facility without the need for rodenticides. Consequently, the Council approved the expansion of the program to all of Clarington's indoor recreation facilities and directed staff to develop a rodenticide-free pest control management protocol applicable to all Municipal buildings and properties.
