Clarington Approves Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan
Clarington Council has approved the Parks, Recreation, and Culture Master Plan (PRCMP), which will guide the development of parkland, programs, and services over the next 10 to 15 years. The plan was developed with input from residents, stakeholders, and community groups, who were invited to review the draft and provide feedback from September 17 to October 15.
The plan includes proposals for new facilities such as ice pads, pickleball courts, an indoor pool, and connected trail systems. It also considers waterfront development, splash pads, bookmobiles, and new parks. These recommendations are based on data, forecasted trends, and analysis, taking into account factors like projected population growth, use rates, household income, diversity, equity, inclusion, and climate change impacts.
Mayor Adrian Foster stated that the plan reflects community priorities and will guide future council decisions on spending. Councillor Lloyd Rang emphasized the importance of community input in shaping the plan, which aims to create spaces for current and future generations to enjoy.
The full plan is available for public viewing on the Clarington municipal website.
