Clarington Approves Land Acknowledgement Statement and Cultural Awareness Training

On October 15, 2019, the General Government Committee of Clarington approved a resolution to incorporate a Land Acknowledgement Statement to be read aloud by the Mayor or designate at the start of public regular and special meetings of Council, as well as at civic celebrations and other official events hosted by the Municipality. Additionally, the Committee directed staff to develop a training plan in collaboration with the Diversity Advisory Committee and local Indigenous representatives to provide Indigenous cultural awareness training for Members of Council and staff. The resolution was carried with a recorded vote of 5 to 1.
