Charges Laid Following Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision in Oshawa

A multi-vehicle collision occurred on Ritson Road South in Oshawa on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at approximately 12:15 p.m. A black Mercedes sedan, driven by a 40-year-old male from Toronto, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when it struck a white Nissan operated by a 41-year-old female from Oshawa. The impact caused the Nissan to lose control and collide with a Chevy Orlando, which subsequently caught fire. The Nissan then hit a Honda and a Dodge Caravan, both of which also caught fire.

Following the initial collision, the Mercedes continued southbound, crossing into the northbound lanes and crashing into a chip truck, causing the awning to collapse on a male waiting for food. The Mercedes then collided with a light pole.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the scene, while nine other individuals were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Lorne Nicholson, 40, of Oshawa, has been charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Bodily Harm (four counts), and Leaving the Scene of an Accident without Providing Assistance. He is currently held for a bail hearing.
