CBSA Reports 2024 Enforcement Activities in Southern Ontario

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reported its enforcement activities in the Southern Ontario Region for the period from January 1 to October 31, 2024. During this time, the CBSA intercepted 392 firearms and 2,819 weapons, and seized 4,083 kilograms of narcotics. Additionally, 1,742,976 kilograms of smuggled tobacco and $1,835,993 in undeclared currency were confiscated.

The CBSA also intercepted 397 individuals with outstanding warrants and arrested 135 people for impaired driving-related offences. A total of 1,406 individuals were denied entry due to serious criminality. The agency also reunited three missing children with their families.

Significant enforcement actions included the seizure of 615 kilograms of suspected cocaine at the Ambassador Bridge port of entry in October, and the discovery of 30 firearms in an unclaimed suitcase at the Queenston Bridge port of entry in September. In July, US$75,945 was seized as suspected proceeds of crime at the Rainbow Bridge port of entry.

The CBSA's Southern Ontario Region processed 10.5 million conveyances and 19.4 million people, which accounted for 43% of the national total of land border travellers. The region also processed 4,400 asylum claims and 2.7 million commercial conveyances, representing 65% of the national total at land borders.

The development of the Gordie Howe International Bridge in Windsor, Ontario, is ongoing, with the bridge deck connected in June. The CBSA has hired over 200 border services officers in preparation for the bridge's opening next fall.
