CBSA Probes Alleged Unfair Trade of U.S. Renewable Diesel
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has started investigations into the importation of renewable diesel from the United States to determine whether these imports are sold in Canada at unfair prices or benefited from subsidies, which could harm domestic industries. This action is a response to a complaint by Tidewater Renewables Ltd., which alleges economic damage due to these import practices.
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) is conducting a preliminary inquiry to assess whether Canadian producers are being injured by these practices, with an expected decision by May 5, 2025. Concurrently, the CBSA will make preliminary decisions on the alleged dumping and subsidizing by June 4, 2025.
Currently, Canada has 158 measures in place to protect its industries from unfair trade practices, reflecting ongoing efforts to maintain fair competition for Canadian businesses.
