Canadian Research Team Initiates Antarctic Mission for Environmental Studies

Canadian scientists will embark on a research mission to Antarctica, beginning February 23, 2025. This mission, part of Operation PROJECTION 2025-01, involves aboard the HMCS Margaret Brooke. Scientists aim to investigate climate change, glacial retreat, and pollution along the South Shetland Islands and the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Polar Knowledge Canada is leading the effort with backing from various Canadian universities, government departments, and international partners like the Instituto Antártico Chileno. The Chief Scientist for the mission is Dr. Thomas James from Natural Resources Canada, who will oversee scientific activities.

This mission underscores ongoing collaborative research efforts in the polar regions, aimed at enhancing understanding of environmental shifts in Antarctica.
