Canadian Job Vacancies Increase in December 2024

Statistics Canada has reported that job vacancies in Canada rose by 15,500 (+3.0%) in December 2024, reaching a total of 536,100. This increase occurred despite a year-over-year decline, with vacancies down by 98,100 (-15.5%) compared to December 2023.

Additionally, the average weekly earnings in Canada increased by 5.8% to $1,291 in December 2024. This data is drawn from the Survey of Employment, Payrolls and Hours and Labour Force Survey.

Payroll employment experienced a modest rise of 25,300 (+0.1%) during the same month. Specific sector contributions to these changes in employment were not detailed in the report.

These figures provide a snapshot of the Canadian labour market as of the end of 2024, according to Statistics Canada's findings.
