Canadian Food Inspection Agency States Vegemite Not Banned in Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has addressed recent media reports concerning Vegemite and the presence of folic acid in the product. The CFIA stated that Vegemite is not banned in Canada.

According to the CFIA, products that contain added vitamins and minerals, such as folic acid, must comply with Canadian food regulations. The agency noted that yeast extract spreads like Vegemite may be sold in Canada if they meet regulatory requirements related to added nutrients.

The CFIA indicated that it continues to monitor and enforce compliance with Canadian regulations for food products containing added vitamins and minerals.
