Canada's Consumer Price Index Rises by 2.0% in October 2024
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Canada increased by 2.0% on a year-over-year basis in October 2024. This marks a rise from the 1.6% increase observed in September. The change is attributed to a smaller decrease in gasoline prices in October (-4.0%) compared to September (-10.7%). Excluding gasoline, the all-items CPI rose by 2.2%, consistent with the growth rate in August and September.
Goods prices saw a slight increase of 0.1% year-over-year in October, following a 1.0% decline in September. Conversely, the growth in service prices slowed to 3.6%, the smallest yearly increase since January 2022. Over the past three years, goods prices have risen by 10.2%, while service prices have increased by 14.2%.
On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.4% in October, reversing a 0.4% decline in September.
