Canada Implements Strategy Against Fentanyl Production
Canada has introduced measures to tackle the production and distribution of illegal fentanyl and other drugs. The Honourable Ya'ara Saks, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions, announced the creation of a Precursor Chemical Risk Management Unit (PCRMU) and the Canadian Drug Analysis Centre (CDAC).
The government has allocated funds for the PCRMU to regulate precursor chemicals involved in illegal drug production. Additionally, funds have been provided to establish the CDAC, which will support law enforcement with laboratory analyses of drug samples.
Canada is coordinating with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration to address cross-border drug activities. These efforts are directed at combatting organized crime networks involved in drug trafficking.
Minister Saks emphasized the necessity of enforcement measures to curtail the impact of fentanyl and similar drugs on public safety. Furthermore, Kevin Brosseau underscored the importance of managing precursor chemicals in disrupting criminal activities.
These joint initiatives with the United States aim to diminish the risks posed by illegal drugs across borders.
