Canada Funds Research on Respiratory Disease Transmission
The Public Health Agency of Canada has announced the allocation of research grants to four organizations to study the transmission dynamics of respiratory infectious diseases. The funding, totaling $752,000, will be distributed among Queen’s University, Carleton University, the Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion, and the University of Waterloo.
Queen’s University will focus on understanding the seasonal transmission of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and the duration of infectiousness across different age groups. Carleton University, in collaboration with the Bruyère Research Institute, will investigate indoor air quality and the spread of respiratory diseases in long-term care facilities in Ottawa. The Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion will explore the duration of viral shedding for various respiratory pathogens, examining factors such as age, sex, and gender. The University of Waterloo will study the impact of public health and environmental measures on the spread of respiratory diseases among school-aged children in Ontario.
These projects aim to enhance understanding of how respiratory diseases spread and to inform public health measures to prevent future outbreaks.
