Canada Announces Reforms to Temporary Foreign Worker Program

On October 21, 2024, Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, announced changes to the Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program. These reforms are intended to address issues within the program and ensure it aligns with current labour market needs.

Effective November 8, 2024, the starting hourly wage for workers entering Canada through the high-wage stream will increase by 20% above the median wage in the respective province or territory. This adjustment raises the wage threshold by $5 to $8 per hour, depending on the location.
