Business Advisory Centre Durham Integrated into Invest Durham
The Business Advisory Centre Durham (BACD) has been integrated into the Regional Municipality of Durham's Economic Development and Tourism Division, known as Invest Durham. This move aims to provide a more cohesive approach to supporting start-up businesses and entrepreneurs in the region.
The Region of Durham has been a primary funder of BACD for many years. The integration is seen as a natural progression to enhance opportunities for residents and the entrepreneurial community. Both teams will now collaborate to deliver services across Durham and leverage existing relationships.
BACD, a not-for-profit organization, has been operating as Durham Region’s Small Business Centre since May 1999. It offers small businesses and entrepreneurs the skills, knowledge, tools, and resources needed for success. The organization has worked with nearly 20,000 entrepreneurs, handled almost 84,000 inquiries, helped start over 2,500 businesses, and delivered 2,700 workshops since its inception.
Invest Durham focuses on small business development and entrepreneurship, with 75% of new jobs in the region created in the small business sector. The division aims to support Durham Region’s business ecosystem by attracting investment and supporting business growth to create jobs.
The BACD has relocated to the Region of Durham’s headquarters at 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby, ON, as of September 23. During the transition, BACD will continue to provide its usual services and support to clients.
John Henry, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Region of Durham, stated that BACD's 25 years of service will enhance Invest Durham’s ability to support the local entrepreneurial community. Simon Gill, Director of Economic Development and Tourism, and Teresa Shaver, CEO of BACD, also expressed their support for the integration, highlighting the benefits of combining resources and expertise.
