Bowmanville Theft Sees Police Seek Trio Following Distraction Tactics
On April 5, 2025, three suspects were involved in a distraction theft targeting an elderly female at a grocery store near King Street East and Simpson Avenue in Bowmanville. According to the Durham Regional Police Service, the theft occurred while the victim was diverted by a male suspect speaking with a French accent.
The incident involved the male suspect engaging the victim in conversation in the meat aisle, while a female suspect allegedly removed the victim's wallet from her purse. The stolen bank cards were later used to purchase gift cards and withdraw cash at a nearby store.
Descriptions of the suspects have been provided by the police. The first suspect is a white male, with black hair and a moustache, clad in a black jacket. The second suspect, a white female with a medium build, was wearing a black headband, a brown jacket, a black shirt, black pants, and white shoes. The third suspect has been described as a male of brown complexion, with black hair and a moustache, dressed in a black puffer jacket, camo pants, and black shoes. They were last seen in a black Hyundai Santa Fe.
