Arrest Made in Oshawa Arson Case

Police have arrested a male suspect in connection with an arson incident that occurred in Oshawa. On December 3, 2023, officers from the East Division responded to a fire call in the vicinity of Jim Brewster Circle and Fleetwood Drive. Witnesses reported seeing two males fleeing the scene in a dark-colored BMW sedan after a home was set on fire. Investigators, alongside the Ontario Fire Marshal, confirmed that the fire was intentionally set, and the BMW was later identified as a stolen vehicle.

On September 9, 2024, police apprehended the first suspect. A second suspect remains at large. The arrested individual, Taha Ali, a 20-year-old from Scarborough, faces multiple charges, including:

  • Arson Causing Property Damage (x2)
  • Possess Incendiary Material for Arson
  • Arson – Disregard for Human Life (x2)
  • Endanger Lives/Safety of Public
  • Possess Property Obtained by Crime Exceeding $5000
  • Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence
