Analysis of Proposed Policy Changes for Director Position Employment Contracts

On January 27, 2020, the General Government Committee of Clarington directed the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) to prepare a report regarding a proposed policy for employment contracts for director positions. The proposed policy stipulates that contracts for directors, filled after the date of the resolution, would be for a duration of five years. This resolution was moved by Councillor Neal and seconded by Councillor Jones, and it was carried unanimously. The implications of this policy include a structured employment term for directors, which may provide stability in leadership roles, while the severance terms could offer a safety net for directors in the case of non-renewal of their contracts.
