Ajax Man Charged with Firearm and Drug Offenses

A 35-year-old male from Ajax has been charged with multiple offenses following an investigation by the Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) of the Durham Region Police Service. The investigation, which began in November 2024, focused on allegations of firearm possession and human trafficking.

On December 11, 2024, officers from the HTU, assisted by the Robbery Unit, arrested the suspect and executed search warrants in Ajax. During the search, police found a loaded handgun in the suspect's waistband. Two additional loaded handguns, a quantity of drugs, and several electronic devices were also seized.

The suspect, identified as Mario K. Francis, faces charges including three counts of possessing a loaded restricted or prohibited firearm, three counts of possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm without a license, possession of a prohibited device, carrying a concealed weapon, careless storage of a firearm, occupying a vehicle with a firearm, tampering with a serial number, possession of cocaine, and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Francis was held for a bail hearing. The police are asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Human Trafficking Unit. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers.
