60th Anniversary of Canada’s National Flag Commemorated

The National Flag of Canada celebrated its 60th anniversary on February 15, 2025. First raised on February 15, 1965, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, the red maple leaf has since become a defining symbol of the nation. February 15 has been designated as National Flag of Canada Day.

Minister Pascale St-Onge issued a statement commemorating this milestone, highlighting the flag's representation of key values such as democracy, inclusion, and justice. Over the years, the flag has come to symbolize unity among Canadians and is prominently featured in various cultural and artistic works across the country.

'Our national flag unites Canadians around principles that define us,' noted Minister St-Onge. Furthermore, she stated that the flag stands as a symbol of Canada's cultural heritage and identity.

In honor of this anniversary, Canadians are encouraged to participate in celebrations and activities across the country associated with the flag. This observance serves as a reminder of the role the flag plays in representing Canada's values and legacy.
