2022 Budget Deliberations Overview

During the General Government Committee meeting on September 27, 2021, discussions regarding the 2022 budget guidelines included several proposed municipal increase percentages. The first resolution, moved by Councillor Jones and seconded by Councillor Neal, proposed a target municipal increase of 1.7 percent, along with a maximum of 1.7 percent for funding requests from external agencies. This motion was lost on a recorded vote with 2 in favor and 4 against.

Subsequently, a resolution was introduced by Councillor Hooper and seconded by Councillor Anderson, suggesting a target municipal increase of 3.5 percent and a maximum of 3.25 percent for external agency funding. This motion also resulted in a tie, with 3 votes in favor and 3 against, leading to its defeat.

Finally, Councillor Zwart moved a resolution, seconded by Councillor Hooper, to prepare a draft budget with a target municipal increase of 3.95 percent and a maximum of 3.30 percent for external agency funding. This resolution was carried with 4 votes in favor and 2 against. The committee approved the 2022 budget schedule as outlined in Report FSD-040-21, and all interested parties were to be notified of the Council's decisions.
